About Carlos Lejnieks and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Essex Hudson and Union Counties

Carlos Lejnieks is President & CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Essex, Hudson & Union Counties (New Jersey) and is immediate-past Chairman of Big Brothers Big Sisters of New Jersey. Lejnieks took over an atrophied agency in 2008 and, within four years, went from serving approximately 116 youth to serving well over 1,100. While Lejnieks' growth for the agency has been aggressive, quality and efficacy have been uncompromised. So much so, that in 2017 Big Brothers Big Sisters of Essex, Hudson and Union Counties (BBBS) programmatic impact resulted in: (1) 95% high school graduation rate, which far exceeds the local average (Jersey City – 80%, Newark - 73%), (2) 92% improvement in at least one youth development asset (social acceptance, scholastic competency, grades, risk taking, truancy, parental trust, and presence of a special adult), and (3) 90% of youth reporting the relationship with their mentor helped them make better choices. The quality of these relationships is a testament to Lejnieks' commitment and drive for the organization's mission to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives with measurable impact for the better, forever..
